Registering Your Business in Your Province

There are a few good reasons for registering your business, from tax implications to liability issues. Unlike registering your business number which allows you to interact with the Federal government, business registration differs from province to province.

Before you register your business, however, it is important to complete a few steps.

  1. Choose your business name and complete a NUAN’s name search or utilizing Quebec's Enterprise Register, if you are not using your business number as your name.
  2. Choose your business structure. Will your small biz be a sole proprietorship, partnership or will you incorporate?
  3. Get or think about getting a business number.

Once you have completed these three steps, you can visit the Canada Business Network to find the correct forms for your province.
